The History of ASL

In 1817, Thomas Gallaudet and Laurent Clerc founded the Hartford Asylum for the Education and Instruction of the Deaf and Dumb.[1] It was at this school, the first of it's kind, that American Sign Language was created.[2]

Did you have an ancestor that attended such a school? Maybe, Gallaudet University, which was founded in 1864? [3] Or perhaps Alexander Graham Bell's oralist school? [4] Could you be a descendant of one of these men name above?

Write Awes of Inheritance: Family History Services if you have a connection or are interested in finding out more about your family history. Thank you for reading.
